1881 Knifeworks is Greg Medford's answer to a question he heard for years: why can't anyone build an affordable American made knife? The Medford Knife & Tool founder launched 1881 to put his heat treatment protocols, grind standards, and quality control into working knives that get carried instead of collected.
The fixed blade side of the line runs coated 1095 carbon steel with G10 scales and top-grain leather sheaths. Compact EDC picks like the Micro Tanto and UDT sit alongside the FUK fighting utility knife, the AIO 2, and field designs like The San. Military-inspired models round it out, from the Luke Airman and STA Sniper to the US 2024 trench knife.
On the folder side, the Route 66, Broadway, Lombard, and Bourbon pair CPM S45VN stainless from Crucible with textured G10 handles, a stout backlock, and a reversible titanium pocket clip for left or right tip-up carry. The tumbled finish cuts glare and hides wear, and the edge retention punches well above its class.
1881 Knifeworks knives are made in the USA. Blades and all critical parts are machined at Medford's own American factory under the same quality control as the main Medford line, with some components like G10 handle scales sourced from Europe and Asia. That is the whole point of the brand: real Medford standards in a knife you can use hard without thinking twice.
