Hogue Knives began making knives in 2010 after over 40 years producing firearm grips and accessories. The family-owned company partnered with custom knifemaker Allen Elishewitz to design tactical folding knives and fixed blades at their Henderson, Nevada facility. Every Hogue knife is made in the United States using CNC machining and precision manufacturing processes developed from decades of firearms industry experience. The knife division moved from California to Nevada to manufacture both manual and button-lock models.
CPM MagnaCut and High-Performance Blade Steels
Hogue uses a range of blade steels for specific applications. CPM MagnaCut is used in the Mysto and Ballista series, offering edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance at 60-64 HRC hardness. The Deka line features CPM-20CV stainless steel, while EX-F01 fixed blades use A2 tool steel with black or tan Cerakote finishes. Other options include CPM-154, S30V for Sig K320 models, M4 tool steel in the Extrak series, and S45VN in select configurations. Each steel is heat treated to optimize performance for its use.
Allen Elishewitz Tactical Knife Designs
Allen Elishewitz, a former Marine with a background in martial arts, has designed Hogue's knife line since the company's 2010 debut. The collaboration began with the EX-01 button lock folder and expanded into the EX-02, EX-03, and EX-04 Extreme Series. Elishewitz's designs prioritize tactical applications with drop point, tanto, and clip point blade geometries. His influence extends across Hogue's catalog from compact EDC folders like the 3.25-inch Deka to larger fixed blades including the EX-T01 tactical tomahawk with S7 tool steel construction.
ABLE Lock Crossbar Mechanism and Button Locks
The ABLE Lock (Advanced Bar Lock Enhanced) is Hogue's proprietary crossbar lock mechanism featured on the Deka and Mysto series. This ambidextrous locking system uses a spring-loaded hardened steel bar that wedges into the blade tang when opened, providing secure lockup without requiring fingers in the blade path during closing. The ABLE Lock includes an aggressively jimped tri-step design for positive engagement. Hogue also manufactures button lock folders including the Ballista-II series and SIG Counterstrike models, along with various configurations using liner locks.
G-10, Richlite, and Aluminum Handle Construction
Hogue handle materials span tactical and lightweight options. G-10 scales appear in solid colors and G-Mascus patterns that replicate damascus aesthetics in a phenolic-based resin. Richlite handles on the Mysto Element series come in earth-tone variations representing fire, water, earth, and wood. The Counterstrike and Ballista models feature CNC-milled 6061-T6 aluminum frames, often paired with polymer or cocobolo inserts. Carbon fiber handles provide reduced weight on select models, while the Sig K320 series uses polymer frames for duty applications. Titanium construction appears on higher-end Mysto configurations with red anodized thumb studs.
