The Hogue Ballista line covers three push-button folders built on Hogue's firearms-grade CNC manufacturing, with separate platforms for low-profile EDC, workhorse pocket carry, and the larger HK Knives collaboration. Made in the USA with a manual safety, ambidextrous deep-carry clip, and Hogue's patent-pending blade retention system across the entire series.
The Ballista I, designed by Allen Elishewitz, runs a 3.5-inch 154CM blade in drop point or partially serrated tanto at 4.2 ounces. The Ballista II is the new compact platform from Scott Bruhns, with a 2.6-inch CPM MagnaCut bayonet blade at 2.0 ounces and 6.4 inches overall, built for low-profile pocket carry. The Ballista XL is the HK Knives by Hogue collaboration that extends the line to a 3.75-inch S30V drop point with red and black ChromaCut G-10 frames and the ABLE Lock crossbar replacing the button lock found on the I and II.
Steel choice tracks the platform. Ballista I uses 154CM in tumbled or black Cerakote finishes for its balance of toughness and corrosion resistance. Ballista II runs CPM MagnaCut at 62 to 64 HRC for upgraded edge retention and stainless performance in a slimmer form factor. The HK Ballista XL specs CPM S30V in black Cerakote drop point or partially serrated tanto profiles. Every blade is cryogenically heat treated and hand-honed before leaving the floor.
Frame construction stays consistent across the smaller two sizes: CNC-milled 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum with hard anodized finishes in matte black, blue, or gray. Insert options include G-10, cocobolo wood, Ultem polymer, carbon fiber, and blue anodized titanium accents on Collector Series Ballista II builds. The HK Ballista XL switches to full-frame ChromaCut G-10 in Heckler & Koch's red and black colorway. All three ship with an ambidextrous deep-carry stainless steel pocket clip.
The Ballista I and II use Hogue's button lock set into recessed stainless steel bolster plates for a snag-free profile. Push-button activation drives the blade open with authority, and the patent-pending blade retention device lets the user retract the blade without placing fingers in the cutting path. The HK Ballista XL substitutes the Automatic ABLE Lock — Ambidextrous Bar Lock Enhanced — for left-and-right-hand operation. All three platforms include a manual safety that locks the knife both open and closed, and every Ballista ships Made in USA with a limited lifetime warranty and free factory sharpening to the original owner.
