The Hogue X5 is a button lock flipper folder designed by Allen Elishewitz, with a ball detent deployment mechanism that delivers flipper-speed opening without a spring assist. The X5 platform inherits design DNA from the earlier EX-A05 auto folder — the two share replacement pocket clip and Torx hardware — and is offered in both Hogue-branded and SIG Sauer co-branded configurations. Made in USA in 3.5-inch and 4-inch blade lengths.
Every X5 runs CPM-154 stainless steel at 57 to 59 HRC, cryogenically heat treated and hand-honed before leaving the floor. Blade profiles include a spear point for general EDC and a wharncliffe with aggressive tip geometry for precision draw cuts. Finishes span tumbled, black Cerakote, and FDE Cerakote depending on configuration. CPM-154 is the powdered-metallurgy evolution of 154CM, delivering finer grain structure for improved edge stability and corrosion resistance at this hardness.
The X5's button lock pairs with a ball detent system embedded in the handle. Pressing the flipper tab loads tension against the detent until the threshold breaks, releasing the blade at full flipper speed without the torsion bar or spring of an assisted-opening knife. A sliding manual safety locks the blade in the open position for hard-use applications, and the button lock itself supports left-or-right-hand closing with the blade fully clear of the user's fingers during retraction.
The X5 handle is CNC-milled from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum with hard anodized finishes in black, grey, FDE, or OD green. Inlay options include G-Mascus black G-10 with mini-piranha texture on Hogue-branded variants and solid black G-10 on the SIG Sauer co-branded models. The 3.5-inch X5 weighs 4.66 ounces and ships with a stainless steel deep-carry pocket clip and filler plate for ambidextrous tip-up carry. Replacement clip and Torx kits are stocked separately in tumbled and black oxide finishes for both X5 and EX-A05 owners.
Roughly half the X5 catalog runs under Hogue's SIG Sauer licensing partnership. The SIG X5 Tactical Flipper pairs grey aluminum with solid black G-10 inlay in spear point or wharncliffe configurations and black Cerakote blades. The standard SIG X5 ships in black aluminum with FDE Cerakote blade. The SIG Sauer X5 Emperor Scorpion matches the P226 Emperor Scorpion pistol aesthetic with black aluminum, black G-10 inlay, and FDE wharncliffe blade. Every X5 is made in the USA and backed by Hogue's limited lifetime warranty with free factory sharpening to the original owner.
