Nottingham Tactical machines modular ballpoint pens and mechanical pencils in Mississippi on five-axis CNC centers. Founded in 2017 by journeyman tool and die maker Lee Nottingham and his wife Liz, the shop machines and assembles every component in-house, down to the mechanisms, with Lee personally assembling each writing instrument. The company built the first ballpoint with a patented built-in safety lock and a fully modular system that converts between pen and pencil, which is why these sit at the top of our EDC pens collection.
Bodies are machined from 6AL4V Grade 5 titanium, solid brass, or copper at 7/16 inch diameter in three lengths: the G2 Mini at 4.25 inches, the Parker format at 5 inches and 32 grams in titanium, and the G2 Full Size at 5.5 inches. Brass and copper builds patina with handling into a finish no two owners share, while limited runs reach into zirconium, Damasteel, and carbon fiber. Milling patterns run from straight and spiral flutes to the digital camo texturing across our current TB360 stock.
The TiButton's locking button rides the side of the pocket clip and blocks the ink from deploying or retracting until engaged, ending the inked pocket and the duty-vest accident forever. Two years of development went into a cam system machined entirely from metal, no plastic internals, offered in right or left hand and in two flavors: Single Lock guards retraction only, Double Lock demands the button for both directions. Every body accepts any of seven interchangeable mechanisms, from the traditional TiClicker to the bolt-action NottaBolt to the LeadSlinger mechanical pencil in .5mm or .7mm, and Parker bodies convert between pen and pencil by swapping three components. Timing indicators machined into components since 2019 keep everything aligned, clips and tips swap freely, and refills stay easy: Pilot G2 and G2 Mini for the G2 formats, Schmidt Easyflow 9000 and any Parker-style cartridge for the Parker.
