Fallkniven A1 Knives
The Fallkniven A1 is the full-size counterpart to the pilot's F1, built for users who need a larger blade for heavy camp tasks and wilderness survival. While the A1 passed every test at the US Naval Air Warfare Center alongside the F1 and S1, it proved too large for aircrew survival vests—but found its home with Special Forces units who valued the additional cutting power and chopping capability.
Laminated Steel Construction
The A1 uses the same three-layer laminate construction as its smaller siblings. A hardened VG10 core provides edge retention while softer 420J2 outer layers absorb lateral stress. At 6mm thick, the blade handles batoning and shelter building that would overstress thinner knives. Hattori applies the convex grind by hand in Seki City, Japan, creating an edge geometry that moves through wood with minimal resistance while maintaining strength under impact.
Handle and Carry
The Thermorun handle insulates against temperature extremes—a deliberate design choice for Scandinavian conditions where bare metal can cause frostbite. Full-tang construction extends through the grip with the tang exposed at the pommel for light striking tasks. The A1 ships with either a Zytel sheath for field durability or leather for traditional carry.
A1 Pro Series
The A1 Pro increases blade thickness to 7mm and upgrades to laminated cobalt steel for improved edge retention. A stainless finger guard adds control during heavy use.
