The Fallkniven F1 has served as the official survival knife for Swedish Air Force pilots since 1995. Compact enough to fit in an ejection seat survival vest, tough enough to handle sub-arctic wilderness survival, the F1 set the standard for what a military pilot's knife should be. Black-coated models passed testing at the US Naval Air Warfare Center in 2000, earning approval for use by USMC and USN aircrews.
Every F1 features a hand-ground convex edge on laminated stainless steel, manufactured by Hattori in Seki City, Japan. The three-layer blade construction sandwiches a hardened VG10 core between tougher 420J2 outer layers. This laminate approach delivers edge retention at the cutting apex while absorbing lateral stress during batoning and prying. The convex grind eliminates secondary bevels, reducing cutting resistance through wood and game.
The Thermorun elastomer handle maintains grip in wet, cold, or oily conditions without aggressive texturing that causes hotspots during extended use. Full-tang construction with an exposed tang end provides a striking surface and lanyard attachment. The 90-degree spine throws sparks from a ferro rod for emergency fire starting.
Current production spans multiple configurations including the standard F1 in laminated VG10, the beefier F1 Pro with Elmax steel and finger guard, and the skeletal F1x built for gloved operations. Steel options include VG10, 3G powder steel, laminated CoS, and Elmax depending on model. Shop the full lineup of Fallkniven F1 knives below.
