The LionSteel TRE — Three Rapid Exchange — is built around a patented opening system that sets it apart from every other folding knife in this price range. Three interchangeable configurations ship in the box: a flipper tab for one-handed deployment, a thumb stud pin for traditional top-down opening, and a clean baseline version with neither device installed. You choose how it opens. The T6/T8 keys and all hardware are included.
That modularity sits on a chassis worth the price on its own. The frame, clip, and spacers are 6Al4V titanium throughout, kept light enough that the knife comes in at 2.89 oz despite a full-size 6.89-inch profile. The 2.91-inch blade runs at 3.5mm thick — enough spine to handle real work without adding unnecessary bulk. The IKBS ball-bearing pivot keeps the action fluid across all three configurations without requiring break-in.
Blade Steel
Standard TRE models run M390, a premium Austrian powder-metallurgy steel with strong corrosion resistance and edge retention that holds up well against daily use. If you want to step up, LionSteel also produces the T.R.E. in Damascus — hand-finished and reserved for buyers who want a working knife that doubles as a collector piece. Both steel options are available in titanium and carbon fiber handle configurations. G-10 variants are also offered at a lower price point for buyers who prefer a lighter entry into the T.R.E. platform.
