SOG Specialty Knives traces its roots to the MACV-SOG combat knife carried by special operations units during covert missions in Vietnam. Spencer Frazer founded the company in 1986 to reproduce that iconic Bowie design, and the brand has maintained its military DNA through decades of innovation—including the SEAL 2000 fixed blade developed for Navy SEAL knife trials in 1992.
SOG’s modern lineup spans six distinct product categories, each built on the same principle that launched the brand: purpose-driven tools for end users who put gear to work.
XR Lock Folding Knives
The XR Lock is SOG’s crossbar mechanism, rated to 1,500 pounds of spine pressure. It runs across the brand’s most advanced folders—Ultra XR, Terminus XR LTE, Pentagon XR, Seal XR, Vision XR, and the Kiku XR collaboration with Kiku Matsuda—in steels from Cryo D2 to CTS XHP. Three deployment methods (thumb hole, flipper, lock-assisted flick) and fully ambidextrous operation with reversible deep-carry clips.
SOG Assisted Technology (SAT) Folders
SOG Assisted Technology drives the AT-series platform: Aegis AT, Trident AT, Flash AT, and the USA-made SOG-TAC CA. The SAT piston lock uses dual safeties—a visual indicator switch and a piston lock securing the blade open and closed. The Twitch series runs a separate assisted mechanism with 154CM blades.
Tactical & Field Fixed Blades
SOG’s fixed blade catalog spans the full heritage. The Tech Bowie and Super Bowie carry the original Bowie silhouette. The Recondo FX delivers a modern tactical platform on Cryo 440C. The Seal Pup Elite extends the SEAL program lineage in a compact format, and the Tellus ATK and Instinct cover entry-level camp and field use.
Compound Leverage Multi-Tools
The PowerLock, PowerAccess, and PowerAssist families are built on SOG’s patented compound leverage system—a gear-driven mechanism that doubles plier force through interlocking gears. The Flash MT bridges multi-tool and folder with an assisted D2 blade in a compact tool platform.
Camp Axes & Tactical Tomahawks
SOG’s axes and tomahawks include the Fasthawk, Tactical Tomahawk, and Tactical Bushcraft Hatchet. Polymer handles, ballistic nylon sheaths, and head geometries built for camp tasks, recreational throwing, and field processing.
Everyday Carry Folders & Slip Joints
SOG’s EDC range covers the full carry spectrum outside the XR Lock and SAT platforms—from the sub-$25 Adventurer LB to the USA-made Banner on CPM S35VN and the One-Zero Au on CTS XHP. Slip joints, framelocks, and lightweight lockbacks for pocket carry without mechanism complexity.
