The TOPS Steel Eagle is where it all started. This was the first knife TOPS ever produced, and after more than two decades in continuous production, it remains the benchmark for overbuilt tactical fixed blades. Designed for special operations personnel and field operators, the Steel Eagle earned its reputation through actual deployment in demanding environments worldwide.
Quarter-Inch 1095 High Carbon Steel Construction
The Steel Eagle's defining characteristic is its .250-inch-thick, full-tang blade. This is not a knife that bends, breaks, or fails under stress. The 1095 high-carbon steel runs at 56-58 HRC—hard enough to hold an edge through extended field use, yet soft enough to resharpen on whatever abrasive surface is available. A black traction coating provides corrosion resistance and eliminates reflective glare. The sawback spine cuts notches in wood and bone for trap-building and shelter construction without touching the primary edge.
Blade Profiles for Different Applications
TOPS offers the Steel Eagle in both hunter's point (drop point) and tanto configurations. The hunter's point version excels at outdoor tasks—skinning, general cutting, wood processing—with its curved belly providing efficient slicing geometry. The tanto point delivers maximum penetration strength and tip durability for tactical applications where the blade may encounter hard materials. Both profiles share the same overbuilt construction and handle design.
Steel Eagle Size Variants
The Steel Eagle 107 is the original full-size configuration at 13 inches overall with a 7-inch blade—the knife that launched TOPS in 1998. The Steel Eagle 105 scales down to 10.5 inches overall with a 5-inch blade while maintaining the same .250-inch spine thickness, offering easier carry without sacrificing durability. The Steel Eagle 111 extends to an 11-inch blade for users who want maximum reach and chopping capability. Delta Class variants feature updated finishes like Midnight Bronze and Acid Rain wash with tan Kydex sheaths.
Ergonomic Micarta Handles
Black or tan linen Micarta scales provide secure grip in wet, muddy, or bloody conditions. The handle geometry accommodates multiple grip positions for different cutting tasks. Each Steel Eagle ships with either a Kydex or ballistic nylon sheath featuring a rotating spring steel clip for versatile belt or pack mounting.
