Blade

Bark River went with CPM-154 for the Broadside, and it's a solid choice. The powder metallurgy process gives you a cleaner carbide structure than standard 154CM, so the steel sharpens easier and holds an edge longer without sacrificing toughness. The blade runs 4.25" at .172" thick and wears Bark River's convex grind — no secondary bevel, just a smooth taper down to the edge. If you've used a convex grind before, you know why people don't go back. A strop is all you need to keep it working.

Handle

Black canvas Micarta is layers of woven canvas set in epoxy resin and cured under pressure. It doesn't care about water, heat, cold, or getting banged around. The red liners running between the scales and tang give it a clean look without being loud about it. The real benefit of canvas Micarta shows up after you've carried the knife for a while — the surface wears in and the exposed canvas fibers give you more grip, especially when your hands are wet.

Carry

Bark River includes a top-grain leather sheath made at their shop in Escanaba, Michigan. At 7.2 oz and 8.75" overall, the Broadside rides well on a belt without disappearing or getting in the way.
