Fire Beard Forge is the work of Jarrett T. Cieslak, an ABS Journeyman Smith based in Pylesville, Maryland. His journey started at 15 when he discovered blacksmithing through YouTube videos. What began as backyard experimentation evolved into formal training—earning certifications in machining from Harford Community College and welding from Earlbeck Welding. Today, Jarrett creates heirloom-quality blades with a mission: "Forging a legacy to last generations."
What's an ABS Journeyman Smith?
The American Bladesmith Society's Journeyman Smith rating represents exceptional skill. To earn this title, bladesmiths must pass rigorous performance tests—their blades must cut rope, chop wood, shave hair, and flex without breaking. Then they submit five carbon steel knives judged on craftsmanship, balance, and aesthetics. It's a credential that separates serious forgers from hobbyists.
Has Jarrett competed on Forged in Fire?
Yes! Jarrett competed on Season 7, Episode 16, tackling the challenging Damascus pattern forging competition. The show tests bladesmiths under extreme time pressure—it's a testament to his skills under fire.
What types of knives does DLT Trading carry from Fire Beard Forge?
We stock his custom work: Bowie knives, hunters, Damascus hunters, skinners, and EDC fixed blades. Each is hand-forged from either carbon steel or Damascus using the traditional 1084/15N20 combination. Handle materials range from spalted maple and curly walnut to African blackwood and bloodwood—natural materials that develop character over time.
What makes these knives special?
Everything's done by hand. Jarrett forges each blade, heat treats to achieve the perfect balance of edge retention and toughness, and personally hand-stitches every leather sheath. Damascus patterns emerge from hundreds of forge-welded layers, creating both beauty and performance. These aren't production knives—they're functional art meant to be used hard and passed down.
Why choose a Fire Beard Forge knife?
When you want a blade with genuine maker provenance, not factory uniformity. These knives represent traditional American bladesmithing at its finest.
