The Pjaltan is the smallest axe in Hults Bruk's Yankee-pattern lineup, built for quiet camp work rather than heavy felling. It suits anyone who wants a compact, one-handed tool for kindling, light carving, and everyday tasks around the cabin or woodpile.
Blade
The head is hand-forged from Hults Bruk's proprietary Swedish steel and finished forge-black. A higher Yankee-pattern grind improves edge durability and helps the blade release cleanly from wood, making repeated chopping and kindling prep easier without the edge binding.
Handle
A 15-inch American hickory handle pairs with the 1.3 lb head. Hickory is a dense, shock-resistant hardwood long used on striking tools because it absorbs impact without transferring excessive vibration to the hand. The balance keeps the hatchet light enough for one-handed use while still delivering useful chopping weight.
Carry
A leather sheath covers the edge for safe transport and storage, protecting both the blade and whatever it's packed alongside. Its size makes it easy to stow in a pack or keep near the fire ring at camp.
Made in Sweden.
