Knives of Alaska has manufactured field-tested hunting knives since 1992. Founded by master guide Charles Allen, the company builds full-tang fixed blade knives for Alaska's extreme conditions. The flagship D2 tool steel has served hunters for over 30 years, heat-treated to Rc 59-61 for edge retention that handles extended field dressing without frequent resharpening. Models like the Alpha Wolf drop-point hunter and Magnum series feature D2 steel with SureGrip handles that maintain grip in cold, wet conditions.
CPM MagnaCut Powder Metallurgy Steel
The Classic Hunter, Alpha Wolf, and Cub Bear caping knife are available in CPM MagnaCut stainless steel, heat-treated to Rc 60-63. MagnaCut's powder metallurgy process creates an ultra-fine grain structure with 2% Niobium and 4% Vanadium, delivering edge retention comparable to S30V with superior toughness and corrosion resistance. The Cub Bear's 2.75-inch blade excels at detail work during caping, while CPM S30V variants offer proven powder metallurgy performance with vanadium carbides for wear resistance.
Full-Tang Drop Point Hunting Knives
Every Knives of Alaska fixed blade features full-tang construction for structural integrity during heavy skinning tasks. SureGrip handles use Santoprene rubber that maintains tactile feedback in freezing temperatures or when covered in blood. G-10 handles receive shot peened finishing for a non-slip surface without excessive tackiness. Stabilized elk stag handles provide natural aesthetics while resisting moisture damage. The Brown Bear skinner cleaver and Light Hunter models combine thick blade stock with full-tang design for processing large game animals.
Alpha Wolf and Trekker Series Models
The Trekker lineup includes the Whitetail Hunter, Elk Hunter, and Pronghorn Hunter with blade geometries matched to specific game animals. The Yukon belt knife's elliptical blade profile proved effective with northern trappers and bush hunters. The Muskrat's curved blade handles skinning and fleshing tasks that challenge conventional drop-point designs. Fillet knives like the Steelheader and Coho use 440C stainless steel for flexibility and corrosion resistance when processing fish. Combo sets pair primary blades with the Cub Bear caping knife or Bobcat mini-hatchet for complete field dressing kits.
Made in USA with Lifetime Warranty
Knives of Alaska developed patented Friction Forging® technology through collaboration with Brigham Young University researchers from 2002 to 2007. This process creates finer grain structures than traditional heat treating, improving both edge retention and toughness. The DiamondBlade knife line utilizes this technology for extended sharpness between field maintenance. All knives receive bead blast or ceramic peened non-glare finishes to reduce reflections during hunting. Full-tang blades include leather belt sheaths with retention straps.
