Folks asked LTWK for a properly big bushcraft knife, and the LT Wright Illuminous 5 answers the call. Designed by L.T.'s longtime friend and sheath maker Spen Steltzer of JRE Industries, this is a survival knife built to get you through any tough job in the backcountry. Think of it as a Genesis scaled up for serious work, a thicker, longer, meatier blade with the power to chop, baton, and clear limbs, yet enough finesse to carve and process game.
Measuring around 10 inches overall with a 5.5 inch blade, the Illuminous 5 is built from 5/32 inch CPM-3V, a powdered tool steel prized for its blend of long edge retention and extremely high toughness, ideal for a hard use woods knife. Our guide to knife steels covers why 3V is a favorite for big fixed blades. The broad spear point carries a full scandi grind finished by hand to a razor edge, with a hard buffed micro convex secondary that slices cleanly and resharpens with basic sharpening supplies. The edge runs all the way to the heel for maximum usefulness, and the 90 degree spine throws sparks off a ferro rod.
Comfortable contoured micarta handles, shaped after the classic Ray Mears Woodlore pattern, fill the hand for hours of hard use. Each Illuminous 5 ships with a JRE leather sheath that rewards a bit of routine leather care. Proudly made in Wintersville, Ohio and backed by a limited lifetime warranty.
