Marfione Custom Knives is the custom division of Microtech Knives, run by founder Anthony "Tony" Marfione and his son Sean. Since founding Microtech in 1994, Tony Marfione has produced limited-run custom versions of popular Microtech models and entirely new designs from his North Carolina workshop. Marfione Custom knives use a logo system to indicate production level: pieces with the claw logo are semi-custom, while those with the dagger logo are fully custom, one-of-a-kind knives. Each Marfione Custom knife receives hand-grinding, hand-finishing, and individual serial numbering, setting them apart from standard Microtech production runs.
Custom Combat Troodon and Scarab Models
Marfione Custom often produces upgraded versions of Microtech's most popular out-the-front automatic knives. The Combat Troodon appears in custom configurations with hand-ground Damascus blades, carbon fiber handles, exotic wood inlays like Ironwood, and specialized hardware finishes. The Scarab II receives similar custom treatment with Damascus patterns, anodized titanium accents, and mirror-polished blade finishes. Custom Halo, UTX-70, and Mini Troodon models highlight Tony Marfione's blade grinding expertise with Damascus steel from specialty forges such as Vegas Forge, Chad Nichols, and Devin Thomas. These limited production pieces come with premium packaging, including carbon fiber-style presentation boxes, certificates of authenticity, and fleece-lined zipper pouches.
Marfione Anax Integral Folding Knife
The Anax represents Tony Marfione's first integral folder design, machining the entire handle frame from a single piece of titanium. This construction eliminates the backspacer and reduces hardware, creating a streamlined profile with increased structural integrity. The Anax framelock features ceramic bearing pivots, replaceable lock bar inserts, and machined titanium pocket clips with silicon nitride ball bearings. Custom Anax versions showcase Damascus blade patterns with hot-blued or mirror-polished finishes, flamed titanium handles, and color-matched anodized hardware. The design won awards at Blade Show and remains one of Marfione Custom's flagship folder models.
Hand-Ground Custom Knives
Marfione Custom produces manual flipper folders in collaboration with other knifemakers. The DOC flipper, designed with Mick Strider, features carbon fiber handles with aggressive texturing, hand-ground blades, and framelock construction. The Starlord folder was the first collaboration between Tony and Sean Marfione, with overbuilt construction, recurve blades, and titanium or carbon fiber handles. The Warhound flipper uses Wharncliffe blade geometry with tactical styling. The Matrix-R offers drop point ergonomics in a framelock package. Each custom flipper receives individual hand-grinding, with blade finishes ranging from mirror polish to Apocalyptic stonewash treatments by the Marfione team.
Collector Appeal and Limited Availability
Marfione Custom knives reach the market through a select network of authorized dealers specializing in high-end custom knives. Production runs remain extremely limited, with many models produced in quantities of 10-50 pieces before designs change or evolve. Serial numbers, maker marks reading "A. MARFIONE" or "ANTHONY MARFIONE / SEAN MARFIONE," and date stamps appear on each knife. The combination of hand-finishing, exotic materials, Damascus patterns, and limited availability makes Marfione Custom pieces highly sought by collectors. Tony Marfione's reputation as Microtech's founder combined with the custom refinements and premium materials used throughout these knives positions them as centerpiece collector items.
