PMP Knives is run by Patrick Holenstein from Horw on Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, and the name is the initials of Patrick and his two best friends. Since 2016 the brand has pursued one idea with total commitment: premium, deliberately limited knives for collectors and users alike, from massively overbuilt showpieces to practical daily carry, designed by a roster of collaborators across Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the USA, and China and built in small numbered runs by production partners of the highest caliber. Many runs sell out in preorder. And everywhere you look there are bears, on the logo and in the model names, because to Holenstein the bear is the ultimate symbol of coolness.
The Alpha Beast is the thesis statement: a 4 inch D2 blade machined to a preposterous 10mm thickness, over a pound of steel and titanium that exists because nobody said it couldn't. The Berserker channels the same energy into a fullered tanto framelock, the Kodiak and our Grizzly stock carry the bear line forward in flamed and gold stonewashed titanium, and the Alpha Smilodon brings saber-tooth attitude in M390. These are the knives that make a collection's centerpiece shelf.
The practical side runs just as deep. The Ares pairs bronze titanium with S90V-class blade steel for hard-use carry, the Beast Prime distills the Alpha Beast into a more agile CPM 3V tanto designed by Carlo Maria Massa, and the User II is exactly what the name promises, a clean titanium daily driver. Steels across the catalog span M390, S35VN, S90V, 3V, and D2, all placed in context by our knife steel guide, and collaborations like the Midgards Messer Big Boss keep the lineup unpredictable. Holenstein's newest venture, Vanguard Knives, carries the same Swiss quality control into full-size EDC folders for anyone who wants the PMP touch in a friendlier footprint.
