The Reate PL-XE is the evolution of the knife that built the pivot lock family, taking the PL-XT's formula and answering the two requests owners actually made: more blade and easier opening. A 3.4 inch Nitro-V blade rides in G-10 or Micarta at 8 inches overall, with the same button lock concealed inside the pivot that made the platform a fidget favorite.
The blade grows to 3.4 inches without growing the pocket footprint, and the headline addition is the large access hole machined through the blade, giving the platform true one-handed opening that works from either hand and any grip. The lock is unchanged because it did not need changing: press the pivot and the blade releases, open or closed, with the mechanism anchored in the strongest point of the knife. For the original format this grew out of, the PL-XT still holds down the compact end of the family.
The blade carries .154 inch stock, stout for the class, in stonewashed or black PVD. Nitro-V is a nitrogen alloyed stainless built for the way work knives actually live: tough under lateral load, stainless through pocket humidity, and back to sharp in minutes on ordinary stones. Our steel comparison guide covers how it compares to the M390 and Elmax running through Reate's premium tiers. Handles come in tan or orange G-10 and green or black Micarta, all textured for grip that holds up wet.
Left handed carry is designed in rather than bolted on. The pocket clip reverses for right or left side, tip up, and Reate includes a filler tab for the front so the swap leaves nothing exposed, a courtesy most production knives skip. Weight lands at 4.7 ounces on a 4.7 inch closed length, sized to work without disappearing. The full Reate catalog covers the rest of the pivot lock family and the titanium tiers above it.
