The Reate TF-4 is the bolstered dress folder of the catalog: a 4-inch blade over blue or black DLC titanium at 5.4 ounces, with true bolster-and-inlay construction that most production makers don't attempt. Reate builds three configurations, and every one runs a steel that deserves its own introduction.
All three builds carry Bohler M398, the higher-carbide evolution of M390 developed to push wear resistance and edge retention past its famous sibling. It gives up some ease of sharpening for significantly longer time on the edge, which is exactly the trade a dress folder at this level should make: a blade that stays working-sharp between the occasions it comes out. Finishes run hand rubbed satin or belt satin on 0.158-inch stock.
The bolsters are the TF-4's signature. The hand rubbed build pairs a blue titanium handle with a Zircuti bolster and marble carbon fiber inlay, the second blue build runs a polished zirconium bolster over a Fat Carbon gold camo inlay, and the blacked-out version sets a crystalized blue titanium bolster against black DLC titanium and carbon fiber. Each locks up on a titanium liner lock and carries on a right-hand tip-up clip, at 8.625 inches overall and 4.625 inches closed.
Reate now stocks two 4-inch dress folders within a tenth of an ounce of each other, and the fork is construction and steel. The Reate T4000 is the frame lock take, M390 or Damasteel over a single-piece titanium frame with a marble carbon fiber inlay, while the TF-4 goes liner lock so the handle can carry full bolster work and the newer M398. Pick the T4000 for the cleaner frame lock architecture, or the TF-4 for the steel and the jewelry.
