The Reiff Rut is purpose-built for field dressing and game processing, designed for hunters who need a blade that performs reliably through the full job - from the first cape cut to the last quarter loaded on the pack. Its straight-back profile and sweeping belly also make it a capable camp and bushcraft knife when the hunting season ends.
Blade
The 3.81" blade is made from CPM MagnaCut steel with a stonewash finish, at 0.14" thick. MagnaCut is a modern powder steel that delivers excellent edge retention, strong corrosion resistance, and toughness, making it well suited to the repeated cutting and moisture exposure of field dressing. The straight-back profile gives a flat spine for finger placement and control, the precision tip handles delicate cape work, and the full sweeping belly powers long skinning and quartering cuts. A high flat saber grind slices through hide and connective tissue without wedging. The stonewash finish resists glare and hides the inevitable mess of field work.
Handle
Orange G-10 scales cover the handle, a fiberglass laminate that stays grippy when wet and resists cracking or fading. Jimping is placed at four points - the spine near the tip, the spine at the front and rear of the handle, and the forefinger rest - giving constant tactile feedback on hand position even in low light or with wet, bloody hands. The knife weighs 6oz, light enough for extended field use.
Carry
The Rut ships with a black Kydex modular sheath that is ambidextrous and configurable for different carry positions. No lock mechanism applies here since this is a fixed blade - the tang and handle are a single solid unit, giving it the strength needed for hard field use.
