The Nessmuk is an outdoor/bushcraft fixed blade manufactured by KA-BAR Knives in Olean, NY as part of Spartan Blades' collaborative lineup. Designed by William W. Harsey Jr., it reinterprets a classic American pattern for modern wilderness use. The 5.125-inch blade is flat ground from 1095 Cro-Van steel at 56-58 HRC—a high-carbon tool steel chosen for toughness and edge retention in hard-use applications. The black powder coat protects against corrosion while maintaining a subdued appearance.
Full-tang construction meets a contoured black injection-molded handle, providing secure grip in wet or dry conditions. At 10 inches overall and 0.680 pounds, the Nessmuk delivers capable blade length without becoming burdensome on extended treks. The blade geometry balances slicing performance with tip strength for camp tasks, game processing, and general bushcraft work.
The injection-molded sheath features an active retention system for secure carry. Made in the USA with a lifetime warranty on materials and craftsmanship.
George Washington Sears, who wrote under the pen name "Nessmuk," was a 19th-century outdoorsman and writer who championed lightweight wilderness travel. His writings influenced generations of campers and hunters. Harsey's design honors that legacy with a blade built for self-reliant travel in the backcountry.
