Rex 121 Lockback with Burnt Orange G-10 Handles
The Chaparral is Spyderco's sleek, lightweight folder designed for everyday carry. This version features Rex 121, a high-speed steel prized by enthusiasts for its extreme edge retention. It's a knife for users who prioritize long-term sharpness over toughness and are willing to maintain their blades carefully.
Blade
The 2.8" blade uses Rex 121, an American high-speed steel with 68-72 HRC hardness. It's formulated for maximum wear resistance and edge retention, outperforming most steels in slicing tests. The tradeoff is chippiness under heavy use and difficulty sharpening. A full-flat grind and satin finish keep the blade looking sharp even when dull.
Handle
Burnt orange G-10 scales provide grip and visual contrast. G-10 is a fiberglass laminate known for durability and resistance to moisture. Peel-ply texture adds grip without being overly aggressive. At 2.3oz, it carries lighter than most G-10 folders.
Carry
The back lock mechanism is simple and reliable. A deep-pocket wire clip supports left or right hand, tip-up carry only.
