TOPS Tom Brown Tracker Knives
The TOPS Tom Brown Tracker remains one of the most recognizable survival knife designs ever produced. Designed by wilderness survival expert Tom Brown Jr. and featured prominently in the 2003 film The Hunted starring Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro, the Tracker brought a radical concept to production knives: multiple tool functions built into a single blade.
Multi-Function 1095 High Carbon Steel Blade
The Tracker's distinctive blade profile integrates several cutting geometries into one piece of steel. The curved belly handles skinning and slicing. A straight section near the handle provides control for detail carving and trap-making. The hooked upper portion delivers chopping power typically reserved for hatchets. The sawback spine cuts notches, processes green wood, and handles tasks that would destroy a standard edge. All of this runs on 1095 high carbon steel at 56-58 HRC with a traction coating for corrosion resistance—a steel chosen specifically for field sharpening on improvised surfaces when necessary.
Tracker Variants by Size
TOPS produces the Tracker in several configurations to match different carry preferences and use cases. The Tracker #1 is the original full-size version at 11.88 inches overall with a 6.38-inch blade and .250-inch spine thickness—serious chopping steel. The Tracker #2 scales down to 9.5 inches overall with a 5-inch blade and thinner .190-inch stock for reduced weight. The Tracker #3 splits the difference at 10.75 inches and has been offered in alternative steels including 154CM. The Mini Tracker #4 brings the design down to an EDC-viable size while retaining the functional blade geometry.

The Tracker excels at tasks that would require carrying multiple tools—processing firewood, building shelters, skinning game, fabricating traps. The quarter-inch thick spine on the #1 handles batoning through hardwood. Micarta handles provide secure grip in wet conditions. Each knife ships with a Kydex sheath featuring a rotating steel belt clip for versatile carry. This is an overbuilt tool designed for genuine survival scenarios where weight matters less than having one knife that does everything.
