The WE Tighe Down is the production version of one of custom maker Brian Tighe's best known all around folders, built by WE Knife Company with the fit and finish that design demands. It is a full size knife with a 4 inch Bohler M390 blade, an integral titanium handle with carbon fiber inlays, and a spring tuned button lock, all in a 6 ounce package that feels as solid as it looks.
Tighe is known for mechanical, sculpted knives that are as satisfying to operate as they are to look at, and the Tighe Down carries that through. The blade deploys by flipper tab or dual thumb studs and rides on caged ceramic ball bearings. The button lock has a spring set under the button to give it just the right amount of resistance, so it releases cleanly with one thumb without feeling loose in the hand. A flamed titanium pivot collar finishes the hardware.
The blade is 4 inches of M390 at 59 to 61 HRC, flat ground from 0.16 inch stock with a swedge along the spine and a thumb groove for control. M390 is a powder metallurgy stainless known for long edge life and strong corrosion resistance, a natural match for a knife this size. Our knife steel comparison covers how it holds up against other premium steels.
The handle is machined from 6AL4V titanium as an integral frame rather than bolted slabs, which gives the Tighe Down a rigid, one piece feel. Carbon fiber inlays add grip and color, and a finger lever keeps the hand anchored when the blade is open. It measures 9.13 inches overall and 5.13 inches closed, with a 0.55 inch thick handle, and carries tip up on a titanium clip with a ceramic ball tip that slides smoothly on and off the pocket.
The 24054-1 pairs gray titanium and blue marbled carbon fiber with a stonewashed drop point. The 24054-2 is the dressiest version, with orange peel textured polished titanium, rose carbon fiber inlays, and a hand rubbed satin drop point. The 24054B-1 goes dark with black titanium and black and yellow carbon fiber over a black stonewashed tanto, the pick for anyone who favors tanto blades.
