The WE Tyro is Snecx Tan's smallest production Superlock knife, and the first time his lock has ever ridden on a blade under three inches. WE Knife Company builds it with a CPM 20CV drop point, a skeletonized 6AL4V titanium frame, and caged ceramic ball bearings, which puts full size engineering into a knife that disappears in the pocket at 3.84 ounces.
The Superlock is a sliding tab seated in the spine that locks the blade open and releases it with a pull. Shrinking it was not a simple resize. Tan reworked the lock geometry so it kept the lockup strength his Superlock is known for while staying smooth to engage and disengage at this size. Pull the jimped tab and the blade flicks out on its bearings, or open it the conventional way through the thumb hole. It is the same lock family found on the full size WE Vision R, refined for a compact frame and every bit as addictive to fidget with.
The 2.91 inch blade is a flat ground drop point in CPM 20CV, 0.13 inches thick, a profile that handles boxes, cordage, food prep, and the rest of an ordinary day without fuss. 20CV is a high vanadium powder steel that holds an edge for a long time and shrugs off corrosion, which is why WE leans on it across the lineup. See how it stacks up in our knife steel comparison. Open, the Tyro measures 6.74 inches overall, and it closes to 3.84 inches.
The handle is 6AL4V titanium milled with geometric cutouts that cut weight, add grip, and make the knife easier to clean. Because the Superlock sits on the spine and the thumb hole is symmetrical, the Tyro runs the same in the left hand as the right. The milled titanium clip reverses for tip up or tip down carry on either side, and WE includes a spare titanium screw to fill the hole if you pull the clip for pouch carry. Semi recessed pivot bearings help keep grit out of the action.
Every Tyro shares the same blade, lock, and frame, so the choice is about finish. The 24001-1 pairs black and gold anodized titanium with a black stonewashed blade, the 24001-2 keeps it clean with gray titanium and a stonewashed blade, and the 24001-3 runs bronze titanium over a black stonewashed blade. If you want something bigger in the pocket, the rest of our folding knives cover every size up from here.
