The Hisshou is a custom shobu zukuri wakizashi from Williams Blade Design, hand built by Primitive Woodsman in North Carolina as part of a limited run pairing rare materials from Baker Forge and Fat Carbon. This is a piece for collectors and custom knife enthusiasts who want a working Japanese-style blade built to a higher standard than a standard production run.
Blade
The 13" blade is forged from Baker Forge Dark Mai, a san mai construction combining 80CrV2 carbon steel with copper layers for a visible line running the length of the blade. 80CrV2 is prized for its toughness and ability to take a fine edge, while the copper cladding adds a distinctive look without compromising the cutting core. The blade carries a raw finish at 0.250" thick, following the traditional shobu zukuri geometry with no yokote line, and is etched with a custom Hisshou kanji from Shodo artist Koshin in Gyosho cursive style.
Handle
The 5" handle is built from Copper Camo carbon fiber by Fat Carbon, one of their strongest carbon fiber offerings, woven with copper tones that echo the blade's san mai line. Carbon fiber handles are lightweight, rigid, and resistant to wear. Overall weight comes in at 19.19oz across the full 18" length.
Carry
The wakizashi ships with a combination Kydex and leather sheath, offering the rigidity of Kydex with the traditional look and feel of leather. As a fixed blade, there is no lock mechanism - the tang and blade are one solid piece of steel.
Made in the USA.
