SK85 Fixed Blade with G-10 Handles

The Work Tuff Gear Ares-NC is a large chopping knife built for batoning and heavy field work. Bridging the gap between axe and knife, it is designed to take repeated impact without complaint, whether that means processing firewood at camp or handling tough outdoor tasks in demanding conditions.

Blade

The 9.25" blade is ground from SK85 carbon steel at a substantial 0.267" thick, finished with a copper wash for added corrosion resistance and a distinct worn look. SK85 is a high-carbon steel that offers excellent toughness and holds up well to repeated impact, making it well suited to a chopper this size. The blade uses a steep saber grind with a broad belly that runs straight into the spine, creating a tip that stays strong under stress while still allowing for controlled, deep cuts. A stepped spine adds extra striking area for batoning work.

Handle

The handle is built with G-10, a fiberglass laminate known for its durability and grip even when wet or covered in debris. At 38oz overall, the Ares-NC carries significant weight forward, which adds momentum for chopping and splitting tasks.

Carry

The Ares-NC ships with a black Kydex sheath that holds the blade securely with retention. Kydex resists moisture and abrasion, making it a durable option for pack, belt, or vehicle storage. As a fixed blade, there is no lock to manage - the full construction is a single, solid piece ready to go to work as soon as it clears the sheath.
