The WTG Ares-NC is a large chopping knife built to bridge the gap between axe and blade. Designed for batoning and heavy field work, this is a tool for users who need to process wood and take on demanding outdoor tasks without reaching for a hatchet.
Blade
The 9.25" blade is made from SK85 high-carbon steel at a thick 0.267", finished with a tiger stripe pattern. SK85 is a carbon steel known for toughness and the ability to hold an edge under heavy impact, making it well suited to chopping and batoning work. The chopper-style blade features a steep saber grind for wood displacement and a step up on the spine that adds surface area for striking with a baton. The broad belly runs straight into the spine, giving the tip strength while keeping the geometry simple enough for easy field sharpening.
Handle
The handle is Jungle Camo G-10, a fiberglass laminate that resists water and holds up under repeated impact without cracking or becoming slick. At 6.85" long, it provides ample room for a secure grip during hard use. Total weight comes in at 38oz, giving the knife the heft needed for chopping tasks.
Carry
The Ares-NC ships with a black Kydex sheath built to withstand field conditions. Kydex is a rigid polymer that holds its shape and protects the edge during transport. No lock mechanism applies here since this is a fixed blade - the tang runs the full length of the handle for maximum strength.
