The V44C is a compact bowie inspired by the WWII-era Marine Raider V44 fighting knife carried by Lt. Colonel Carlson's 2nd Raider Battalion. Work Tuff Gear scaled that legacy design into an everyday carry size, keeping the aggressive clip-point profile while refining the ergonomics for daily utility, bushcraft, and camp chores.
Blade
The 4" bowie blade is made from AEB-L steel with a cryogenic heat treatment and satin finish. AEB-L is a Swedish stainless steel known for its fine grain structure, excellent toughness, and ease of sharpening - the cryo treatment further stabilizes the steel for improved edge retention and durability. At .157" thick, the blade carries a wide fuller reminiscent of the original V44's double fuller, reducing weight while preserving strength for hard use.
Handle
The handle is finished in Brown Burlap Canvas Micarta, a composite made by resin-impregnating layers of canvas fabric under pressure. Micarta is prized for its durability, grip texture even when wet, and how it develops character over time. At 9.2oz, the knife has substantial presence in hand without being unwieldy.
Carry
The V44C ships with a Black Carbon Fiber Kydex sheath, offering a rigid, weather-resistant carry option with a secure friction-fit retention. The sheath supports belt or clip-style carry, keeping the knife accessible for daily tasks.
