A Historic Design, Built Without Compromise

The original Mark 2 went to war with American Marines and sailors in World War II and earned its reputation the hard way. More than eighty years later, it is still the knife other fighting and utility blades get measured against. Plenty of companies have made their own version. We wanted one built to a standard the wartime originals never could be, with every material chosen because it was the best one for the job.

CPM 3V at 58-60 HRC

The 7-inch clip point blade is CPM 3V, a powder-metallurgy tool steel with a well-earned reputation for toughness. At 58-60 HRC, it takes hard use that would chip a lesser steel and still holds a working edge. The stonewash finish hides scuffs, so the knife keeps its looks after you have put it to work.

Rock Solid from Guard to Pommel

The tang is where an old Mark 2 was most likely to let you down. On the AKC MK2, it is thickened and runs the full length of the handle, passing through and locking to the pommel with more material in the tang, reinforced by the incredible toughness of CPM 3V. That pommel is S7, a shock-resisting tool steel of the kind used for chisels and punches. Up front is a matte brass guard. At 11.8 ounces, it feels like one piece of steel, balanced to sit in your hand.

Stacked Micarta, Shaped for Comfort

The handle has the look of classic stacked leather, but it is stacked micarta. Leather washers dry out, shrink, and loosen over the years. Micarta does not. Matt designed it with a very slight chamfer at each groove that takes the hard edges off, making it comfortable to hold for as long as the work takes.

Designed by Matt Martin, Co-Branded with Vehement Knives

We carry Matt's own knives here at DLT, and his eye for the lines of a knife is all over this one. He kept what makes a Mark 2 a Mark 2 and put his own hand on the rest. Each knife carries the Vehement Knives mark as well as American Knife Company's.

Leather Sheath, Lifetime Warranty

Every MK2 comes in a premium leather sheath made in America. The knife is built in the USA in small batches and backed by a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.

Care

CPM 3V is a tool steel, not a stainless steel, though it is quite corrosion resistant for a tool steel. Wipe the blade dry after use and give it a light coat of oil now and then. The brass guard can take on a patina with handling.
