on Orders Over $99Desert ironwood ranks among the most sought-after handle materials for good reason. Harvested from dead trees in the Sonoran Desert, the wood develops its distinctive figure over centuries of slow growth in arid conditions. The result is one of the densest, most stable handle materials available—naturally oily, resistant to moisture, and striking enough to make each knife unique. Red liners and mosaic pins complement the wood's rich coloring.
The convex grind on this 4.75" Drake creates an edge that combines cutting efficiency with durability. Rather than flat bevels meeting at the edge, the convex profile curves smoothly toward the cutting surface, leaving more steel behind the edge for strength while still slicing effectively. CPM Cru-Wear makes excellent use of this geometry—the steel's exceptional toughness means the edge resists chipping even during hard use, while its balanced carbide structure maintains sharpness through extended work. Crucible's powder metallurgy process puts this steel in the same conversation as CPM M4 for edge retention, but with better toughness and easier sharpening. At .125" thick and 5.96 ounces, the Drake handles serious tasks without excess weight.
