The Benchmade 177BK Mini SOCP scales the Special Operations Combatives Program knife down to a slim fixed blade you can carry every day. Designed by Greg Thompson, the combatives instructor behind SOCP, it keeps the finger ring and retention of the original dagger but switches to a single edge spear point. It is a compact backup for law enforcement, security professionals, and anyone who wants a discreet, dependable blade on a morning run or a late commute. It is part of Benchmade's Black Class and made in the USA.
The 2.22 inch spear point is cut from a single piece of 440C stainless at 58 to 60 HRC on thick .175 inch stock, with a black Cerakote finish. 440C is a proven stainless that resists corrosion, sharpens easily, and holds a working edge, a sensible choice for a knife that rides against the body in sweat and weather. The single edge spear point keeps a strong, centered tip with one sharpened edge. Our comparison of every major knife steel explains where 440C fits.
Blade and handle are one piece of steel, skeletonized to save weight, with finger grooves on both sides and the SOCP finger ring at the butt. With a finger through the ring, the knife stays in your hand even when you open your grip, so you can use your hand for something else and go straight back to the blade. It weighs 3 ounces.
The injection molded sheath is MOLLE compatible and carries a DLC coated deep carry clip with a J hook, so it rides tip down on a waistband, pocket, or kit. The finger ring stays exposed for a fast draw.
