The Benchmade Bedlam is one of the most recognizable knives Benchmade ever built: an upswept, Middle Eastern inspired scimitar blade on a down-swept handle that fills the hand. The 865 Mini Bedlam brings that cult classic back in a size you can carry every day, with a 3.45 inch CPM S90V blade on .114 inch stock, 8.63 inches open and 5.2 closed, on the Benchmade AXIS Lock. It is made in the USA.
The original Bedlam arrived in early 2010 as the 8600, a nearly 10 inch automatic with a 4 inch blade in Benchmade's Black Class duty line. A manual 860 followed. The blade shape follows the jambiya, the traditional curved dagger of the Middle East, and collectors have long repeated the story that the design was first commissioned for the royal guard of Jordan. Both big Bedlams were eventually discontinued, and demand for them never went away.
Released in 2025, the Mini keeps the upswept scimitar, a swedge along the spine, and thumb studs on both sides. The 865-02 is the dress version: a satin blade, marbled carbon fiber, black oxide and dark copper PVD hardware, and a chamfered copper backspacer, at 4.67 ounces. The 865BK-01 wears layered black, coyote, and OD green G10 with a Cerakote blade. The 865SBK goes all black with a partially serrated edge for rope and webbing. S90V, run at 59 to 61 HRC, is one of the longest wearing stainless steels in any production folder.
The upswept curve puts a long stretch of belly in a short knife, so pull cuts slice deeper, and the raised tip hooks into material instead of skating off it. The aggressively milled handle, with deep finger grooves and a guard, keeps your grip locked in through fast movements. Despite the name, the Mini Bedlam is a full size knife in hand.
