Benchmade Osborne
The Benchmade Osborne family is built around the 940, a knife that set the template for the modern everyday carry folder when it debuted at Blade Show in 2000. Its designer, the late Warren Osborne, was born on a ranch in Australia and worked as a ranch hand and horse trainer before building custom folders in Waxahachie, Texas. That background shows in the knife: slim and elegant enough for a dress pocket, but made to work. Every Osborne pairs his reverse tanto with the ambidextrous Benchmade AXIS Lock and is made in the USA.
Why the Osborne Reverse Tanto Works
Instead of rising to a point on the centerline, the spine angles down to meet the edge, much like the spey blade on a rancher's stockman. That puts real steel behind the tip for strength, and it leaves a long, gently curved edge for slicing. A two-thirds height flat grind balances the two. It opens boxes, cuts cord, and dresses game equally well, which few blade shapes manage.
Benchmade 940 Osborne Models
The original Benchmade 940 runs a 3.4 inch CPM S30V blade on green aluminum with the famous purple backspacer, at 2.9 ounces. The 940-2 swaps to black G10, and the 940-1 goes to carbon fiber over S90V. Newer builds include the 940-04 in blue denim Micarta over M390, the lightest at 2.42 ounces, the Taiga Green 940FE-2601 with FDE coated S90V, and the Burnt Copper 940BK-03 in battlewashed MagnaCut. Benchmade 945 Mini Osborne
The 945 Mini Osborne keeps the reverse tanto and AXIS Lock on a 2.92 inch blade at about 2 ounces, a natural office carry. It mirrors the full size lineup: green aluminum S30V, black G10 945BK-1, carbon fiber S90V 945-2, blue denim Micarta M390 945-04, and Burnt Copper MagnaCut 945BK-03.
Benchmade 9400 Auto Osborne
