Black Roc Knives is the shop name of Ken Vehikite, a custom maker based in Indiana who has built a serious reputation for handmade fixed blades with an unmistakable profile. A former corrections officer who turned knifemaking from a side pursuit into a full-time trade, Vehikite builds every Black Roc knife himself, one at a time, with no CNC or computer-driven machinery in the shop.
Working entirely by hand gives the brand its character. Vehikite grinds, shapes, and finishes each blade individually, so a Black Roc knife carries the marks of real craftsmanship rather than a production line. He favors tough working steels, with 5160 and other proven carbon and stainless options turning up across the lineup, paired with thick, dual-textured G10 scales built to channel away dirt and moisture and lock into the hand. These are knives meant to be carried hard and used, not babied in a display case.
Black Roc designs lean tactical and unapologetically aggressive. Models like the Lobo and the Gator combine stout full-height grinds with deeply contoured handles, while one-off pieces such as carved ring daggers show just how far Vehikite's hand work can go. The styling is distinctive enough that collectors recognize a Black Roc on sight, and his limited handmade drops have a habit of selling out within minutes of going live.
In 2021, Italian manufacturer Fox Knives brought Vehikite's work into series production, putting the Black Roc aesthetic within reach of a much wider audience. The Monkey Thumper, a karambit-inspired fixed blade with a ring pommel and a harpoon-style N690Co blade, and the Ryu, an oversized take on the Japanese tanto, led the collaboration. For anyone who has missed out on a handmade drop, the Fox-built designs are a far more attainable way to carry a piece of Vehikite's vision.
