The Buck 110 Folding Hunter and 112 Ranger are the lockbacks that defined the category. Introduced in 1964, the 110 established the template for the modern folding knife—a 3.75" clip point blade, brass bolsters, and a back lock mechanism that became an industry standard. The 112 Ranger followed as the compact variant, trimming the blade to 3" while maintaining identical construction.
Both models remain in continuous USA production. The standard versions run Buck’s proprietary heat-treated 420HC at 58-60 HRC—a steel that prioritizes toughness and ease of maintenance over edge retention. Buck backs both models with the Forever Warranty, covering defects in materials and workmanship.
The current lineup spans multiple tiers. The Slim Select series drops the brass bolsters for lightweight polymer handles, bringing carry weight under 3 oz. The Slim Pro upgrades to S45VN steel and G-10 scales. The Elite tier runs CPM-MagnaCut blades with premium handle materials including canvas micarta and titanium. The TRX models feature titanium bolsters with PVD finishes.
Legacy Collection releases rotate annually with premium materials and limited availability. The 2024 editions include a marbled carbon fiber 112 Ranger Slim Pro TRX and a Damascus-clad 110.
Both knives accept the same leather and nylon sheath options. The 110 and 112 remain Buck’s best-selling models six decades after introduction.
