The Sebenza proved the Integral Lock. The Inkosi is what Chris Reeve engineered once he stopped refining that design and started pushing it. Named for the Zulu word for chief, it was built to answer a specific question, what does the lock do when you ask more of it. Why the Chris Reeve Inkosi Exists
Every load-bearing part is scaled up while the footprint stays pocket friendly. The blade runs thicker stock, the stop pin is sturdier, and the oversized washers are the same size front and back, locating off the stop pin with grease pockets that keep the action fed for years. A 97 RC ceramic ball rides the lock interface, so engagement stays exact for the life of the knife instead of wearing like bare titanium. This is the model collectors point to when they argue the Inkosi, not the Sebenza, is the truest expression of what Chris Reeve set out to make.
Inkosi vs Sebenza
Pick it up next to a Large Sebenza 31 and the difference is immediate. The Inkosi's large hollow grind blends flat-grind strength with hollow-grind slicing, so the edge has real authority and bites into hard material instead of skating, and the heavier internals mean zero developing play no matter how often it gets run. The clip choice is deliberate, it rests on the spine so carry pressure never touches the lock bar, a small decision that tells you how the whole knife was thought through. The Sebenza is the refined classic; the Inkosi is the one built to be leaned on.
Large Inkosi and Small Inkosi
The Large Inkosi runs a 3.60 inch stonewashed MagnaCut blade at 8.40 inches overall and just under five ounces. The Small Inkosi brings the same overbuilt internals down to 2.75 inches and 2.9 ounces, an easy everyday carry with nothing softened. Each size is a dedicated build rather than a scaled copy, which is why a left-handed Inkosi feels exactly as resolved as a right.
