Dead Reckon Knives designs, machines, and assembles everything in Grove City, Ohio, on a simple bet: American-made knives can be mechanically better than the imports without costing custom money. The shop is veteran owned and operated, blending over 50 years of combined machining and aerospace manufacturing experience with more than a decade in U.S. Military Special Operations, and every major component comes off their own machines.
Former Recon Marine Sean Bernstein, veteran machinist Chad Dixon, Neal Birchfield, and Beau Brown, who together launched OP1 Industries as an OEM machine shop in 2021. Dead Reckon grew out of that shop, debuting its first knife in 2023 at River's Edge Cutlery's 20th anniversary.
The Ridgeback is the flagship folder, drawn from a sketch Bernstein made on deployment in Iraq and built around a proprietary button lock running on dual sealed bearings. The enlarged choil gives it multiple grip positions, and it comes in both standard and full integral construction, where the handle is machined from a single block, with current runs wearing the signature Vertebrae milling pattern. Configurations run deep across reverse tanto, modified clip, modified drop, and WharnCleaver grinds, with aluminum, titanium, and Fat Carbon inlay handles from Shipwreck camo to glow.
Every Ridgeback runs the shop's proprietary button lock mechanism on dual sealed bearings, paired with blades in MagnaCut, S45VN, or 3V depending on configuration. Blades, handles, hardware, and assembly all happen in the Grove City shop rather than being imported for final assembly, which is how the lock stayed in-house from design through production.
