The ESEE 6 is the full-size wilderness survival knife in the ESEE lineup, bridging the gap between the medium-duty ESEE 4 and the chopping-capable Junglas. Where the ESEE 5 was engineered for SERE use with a quarter-inch spine, the ESEE 6 runs a thinner 3/16-inch stock that preserves chopping reach while keeping weight reasonable for extended carry. It's the knife ESEE built for users who want one blade to cover camp, bushcraft, and survival work in the woods. DLT stocks the ESEE 6 in three configurations: the standard 1095, the CPM-S35VN stainless, and the 6HM modified handle bushcraft variant.
Blade Geometry and Intended Use
The ESEE 6 runs a 5.75-inch cutting edge on a 6.5-inch drop point blade at 0.188-inch stock thickness. Overall length is 11.75 inches, weight is 12 ounces without sheath. The blade shape delivers about three inches of straight edge and three inches of curving belly, which gives you chopping reach for limbing and shelter work plus enough belly for skinning and detail cuts. The full flat grind cuts cleanly through wood, rope, and game despite the blade's length. A 3/4-inch finger choil behind the cutting edge lets you choke up for carving, fuzz sticks, and food prep.
1095 Carbon vs CPM-S35VN Steel Options
The standard ESEE 6 runs 1095 high-carbon steel at 55 to 57 HRC with a textured powder coat. 1095 at this length and thickness delivers the impact tolerance needed for batoning hardwood and extended chopping work. The S35VN version runs premium powder stainless at 59 to 60 HRC with a stonewashed finish and 3D contoured G10 handles. S35VN gives you significantly better edge retention and corrosion resistance, though ESEE notes the S35VN runs harder and is not intended for the same punishing batoning abuse as the 1095. Pick 1095 for hard-use wilderness batoning and long-term field carry. Pick S35VN for humid climates and extended edge life between sharpenings.
ESEE 6HM Modified Handle for Bushcraft
The 6HM is the bushcraft variant of the ESEE 6. HM stands for Handle Modified, and the changes mirror those on the 3HM and 4HM: the forward finger choil is removed, spine jimping drops, and the Micarta handle is reshaped rounder and slimmer for all-day use without hot spots or blisters. The blade runs the same 1095 steel, same 3/16-inch thickness, and same drop-point profile as the standard ESEE 6 at a 6-inch cutting edge length. The 6HM ships with a brown leather belt sheath rather than the molded polymer sheath of the standard 6. This is the variant hunters and bushcrafters pick for extended field use.
Sheath System and Lifetime Warranty
The standard ESEE 6 and S35VN share the same molded polymer sheath with clip plate, so Molle backs and replacement sheaths fit across both. The 6HM uses the leather belt sheath exclusive to that variant. Every ESEE 6 carries the brand's unconditional lifetime warranty against blade breakage regardless of cause, transferable to any subsequent owner with no receipt required.
