The ESEE Candiru is the smallest fixed blade ESEE Knives makes, named for the tiny Amazon catfish with a reputation far bigger than its size. The knife lives up to it. A 2 inch drop point on 1/8 inch 1095, 5.13 inches overall, and 1.7 ounces bare. That is light enough to forget it is on a neck cord and small enough to fit a mint tin survival kit. Where the Izula is a main blade for minimalists, the Candiru is the knife you carry in addition to everything else.
ESEE Candiru as a Backup Knife
The Candiru does the small jobs that come up all day and the big job that matters if everything else is gone. It opens packages, cuts cord, scrapes ferro rods, and cleans fish. In an emergency it is still a full tang fixed blade that will not fold on your fingers. It earns a spot in a hunting pack as a caping and backup blade, or on a neck cord alongside a bigger belt knife. The Candiru with kit adds survival gear to the package, and the knife comes in black, desert tan, olive drab, dark earth, and purple.
ESEE Candiru Handle Options
The Candiru ships as bare skeletonized steel, which keeps it flat and light but gives your hand very little to hold. Most owners change that. A tight paracord wrap fills out the grip and adds a few feet of usable cord. The Candiru Micarta handle bolts on for a warmer grip that bites when wet, and the orange G-10 handle makes a knife this small easy to spot when you drop it in leaves or snow.
ESEE Candiru Sheath and Clip Plate
Every Candiru comes with a molded polymer sheath that hangs well on a neck cord and fits into a kit pouch. Replacement Candiru sheaths come in black, coyote brown, and olive drab, and the purple models also come with a white sheath. The Candiru clip plate turns the sheath into a pocket or waistband carry, so the knife rides inside a pocket instead of under a shirt.
