Fiddleback Forge handmade fixed blade knives are crafted entirely by knifemaker Andy Roy in his Norcross, Georgia shop, where he has refined his craft since 2007. Andy hand-grinds every blade with his signature full-height convex grind, a technique inspired by traditional Himalayan khukuris that provides superior edge strength and simplified field maintenance with sandpaper rather than stones. Each knife features a hand-carved handle shaped with grinders and files to create natural indexing—ensuring users instinctively know edge orientation without looking at the blade, critical for tasks like field dressing game. Fiddleback Forge utilizes American-made carbon steels including A2 tool steel, O1 carbon steel, and 8670 alloy steel in thicknesses typically ranging from 3/32" to 1/8", with Andy personally heat-treating each blade to maximize edge retention and toughness. Handle materials span exotic hardwoods like cocobolo and katalox, stabilized curly maple, and canvas or burlap micarta with distinctive liner combinations. Popular models include the Bushcrafter series with 4" drop point blades, the classic Nessmuk design with 4" blade length, and compact EDC fixed blades like the Hiking Buddy and Bushfinger. After expanding to a multi-person operation and briefly partnering in Pop's Knife Supply, Andy returned to solo production in 2021 to maintain the exacting standards that earned him acceptance into The Knifemakers' Guild in 2015. Each Fiddleback knife represents weeks of hands-on work using stock removal methods rather than forging, with Andy shaping every handle and grinding every bevel to ensure comfort during extended cutting tasks and hard outdoor use.
