Heretic Hydra
The Heretic Hydra is a single action OTF automatic, introduced in 2015, that pioneered the swiveling button safety on an out the front knife. Now in its V4 refresh, it is the hardest hitting design from Heretic Knives, built by Anthony Marfione Jr.'s team in Sebastian, Florida for buyers who want maximum firing power.
How the Hydra Single Action Works
To fire, swing the sculpted titanium cover aside and press the top mounted button. To close, hold the button and pull the charging handle at the butt to reset the spring. Because the spring only has to fire the blade, all of its tension goes into deployment for a harder strike and tighter lockup than most double action OTFs. Swiveling Button Cover Safety
The Hydra's patented swiveling cover sits directly over the firing button, so the knife can't deploy accidentally in a pocket or bag. It moves aside with a thumb in one motion, adding safety without slowing you down, and it gives the Hydra its signature look among our OTF knives.
Hydra V4 Specs and Blade Styles
The Hydra V4 runs a 3.625 inch blade on 0.155 inch stock, about 9.1 inches open and 5.3 inches closed at roughly 5.3 ounces. Choose a single edge drop point, a tanto, or a recurve, in plain or fully serrated edges. Cel Shading and Hydra Finishes
The contoured 6061-T6 aluminum handle comes in black, OD green, and tan camo, plus hand painted UV cel shading in themes like Shipwreck, Frankenstein, Horror Night, Stealth Gray, and Toxic Green. Blades run stonewash, two tone, battleworn, and DLC. A double prong pocket clip and a carbon fiber charging handle insert finish the build, made in the USA.
