JB Knifeworks is the creation of Joey Berry, a Buford, Georgia maker who came to knives through two trades that teach you exactly what a blade should do: years as a butcher, where edge geometry and in-hand feel are a daily livelihood, and training as a gunsmith, where wood and steel meet to tight tolerances. He sharpened that foundation in the Fiddleback Forge Apprentice Program under Andy Roy, who has called Berry one of the most skilled apprentices the program has produced.
Yes, and the pedigree shows in the grinds. Berry builds some of the thinnest, strongest blades in the custom market, running full flat and convex grinds with generous distal taper that pulls weight out of the blade and puts balance back in the hand. The Layman is the signature pattern, a do-everything hunting and bushcraft fixed blade in tapered tang 80CrV2 and Cru-Wear, wearing camel bone, desert ironwood, and sambar stag.
