The Leatherman Raptor is a folding trauma shear built with input from special operations medics, EMTs, and fire professionals who wanted the shears they already trusted plus the few tools a call actually demands, with nothing extra to fumble. It folds in half for a duty pouch or scrub pocket and is made in the USA by Leatherman in Portland, Oregon. Two builds carry the platform today, the full featured Raptor Rescue and the compact Raptor Response.
The Raptor Rescue pairs 420HC stainless folding shears with a strap cutter for seatbelts and webbing, a ring cutter for swollen fingers, an oxygen tank wrench, a carbide glass breaker for vehicle extraction, and a ruler. It measures 8 inches open and 5 inches folded, weighs 5.8 ounces, and ships in an injection molded holster. The original black Raptor carries the same tool set and comes with either a utility holster or a Molle sheath.
The Raptor Response trims the platform for everyday carry. Its 420HC shears use micro serrations on the inner blade so fabric does not slip or bind, and it keeps the ring cutter, ruler, and oxygen tank wrench. Contoured aluminum handles carry a ceramic coating and a pocket clip instead of a holster, folding to 4.3 inches at 5.5 ounces. We stock it in Crimson, Grey, and Navy.
Choose the Rescue if you work vehicle accidents or fire calls, where the strap cutter and glass breaker earn their place and a holster on a duty belt or Molle panel keeps it ready. Choose the Response if you carry in a scrub or uniform pocket, work in a hospital or clinic, or simply want lighter trauma shears that clip where you need them. Both run the same 420HC shear blades and both carry Leatherman's 25 year warranty.
Standard EMT shears ride loose in a pocket and get lost, borrowed, or snagged. A folding trauma shear like the Raptor locks open for cutting clothing and closes to half its length for carry, and its blunt lower tip slides under fabric without catching skin. That makes the Raptor a common gift for new paramedics, nurses, and firefighters, and it can be personalized with our engraving service. Replacement holsters and carry gear live in our Leatherman sheaths and accessories, and the rest of the toolbox is in our multi-tools collection.
