The Medford Merc-1 is the OTF knife line from Medford Knife & Tool, a double action out the front automatic made in Phoenix, Arizona. Medford released it on the heels of its Proof Strike limited series, building it around an aluminum chassis, Medford's HeX technology engine, and a titanium clip, slider, and breaker.
The Merc-1 comes in three blade shapes. The standard tanto runs S45VN in black aluminum with a blue or bronze clip. The Praetorian tanto borrows its profile from Medford's flagship Praetorian and comes in red, green, blue, and black aluminum. The double edged dagger comes in S45VN in yellow, green, blue, and black, or in 154CM in blue aluminum and blue titanium.
Every Merc-1 runs a 3.7 inch tumbled blade on 0.150 inch stock, 4.75 inches closed and 8.45 inches open, at 4.1 ounces. The clip mounts tip down for right or left hand carry. S45VN gives a little more edge retention and corrosion resistance than 154CM, a classic stainless that is easy to sharpen, and our knife steel guide breaks both down.
