Microtech Combat Troodon
The Microtech Combat Troodon (say it TROH-o-don) is the duty knife of the OTF world. It was built for law enforcement, military, and first responders who needed a substantial blade that deploys with one hand under stress, and the spec sheet reads accordingly: 9.5 inches overall, a 4-inch blade, and just under 5 ounces of anodized aluminum with an integrated glass breaker at the base.
The dual-action thumb slide fires and retracts that big blade with real authority, and heavy jimping and grooves across the chassis keep it locked in a gloved or wet hand. Machined in the USA, it is the flagship hard-use knife in the Microtech lineup, and the biggest OTF most people will actually carry every day.
Combat Troodon Gen III
Gen III is the deepest overhaul the platform has seen. The new drivetrain gives it the smoothest deployment Microtech has ever put in an OTF, and the firing switch now rides on a milled platform with grooves underneath that break up pocket lint and debris before they add friction, stretching the intervals between cleanings. The redesigned chassis carries a milled titanium pocket clip with a ceramic ball, and Torx hardware throughout means you can disassemble it for maintenance without a fight. It is a duty knife that got easier to live with.

The names confuse people, so here is the short version: the Combat Troodon is the full-size duty knife, and the standard Troodon carries the same silhouette and mechanism in a smaller, lighter package for everyday pockets. If you want maximum blade, presence, and grip real estate, the Combat is the answer; if the same DNA needs to disappear into slacks, the Troodon is the move.
