Peltonen Knives builds the Sissipuukko, the Finnish ranger knife, and its origin runs through the Middle East. Serving as a UN military observer in Lebanon in the early 1980s, Finnish Defence Forces Captain Juha-Pekka Peltonen was handed an American Randall by a fellow officer and never forgot its balance, and the idea of a knife with that class of usability built for Northern conditions smoldered until it became the M95 Ranger Puukko. The design was adopted first by Sweden's SSG special operations group, then by Finnish forces, and today it is a NATO-coded tool carried by Finnish rangers and tested by special operations units worldwide.
The M95 runs a 5.9 inch drop point in 80CrV2 carbon steel hardened to HRC 59, cut at Laurin Metalli in Kauhava, a Finnish town that has made knives for centuries, at a stout 4.25mm thickness with a saber grind. Offered uncoated or protected in black Cerakote or food-safe PTFE, the blade rides in an impact-resistant TPE handle over a composite EasyLock sheath that snaps the knife in securely, mounts to MOLLE webbing, and releases silently with one hand.
