Red Horse Knife Works is the Chicago-born brand of Edward Kim, a lifelong martial artist with fifteen years of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai, a former MMA competitor, and a decade-long security consultant and tactical instructor who taught himself knifemaking by converting his living room into a temporary shop. Every design still begins in his west side Chicago workshop, drawn in the style Kim calls old-school Prohibition Americana with a modern twist, and the company was founded on a simple promise: bring custom-grade mid-techs to the general public without compromising the heart and soul of the work.
The Hell Razor is the flagship, an aggressive slim-line design our stock carries in both Chicago-built mid-tech form, stonewashed titanium with speed holes, thumb discs, and custom clips, and the accessible P Series production version in marbled carbon fiber over hand-finished S35VN. The War Pig is the overbuilt counterpart, designed for military and law enforcement professionals, running up to a 6AL-4V titanium frame with hardened lock insert, ceramic detent, caged bearings, and S35VN in satin, PVD black, and two-tone finishes. Kim's mid-techs and customs are built entirely in the Chicago shop, while the P Series production lines pair US blade steel with globally sourced frames and bearings, and the copy on every listing tells you which you're holding.
The Chicago-made side of our selection runs deep and strange in the best way: the Karamahawk crosses a karambit with a hawk in G-10 and bare bones trim, the Hell Razor fixed blade wears faux ivory over a hand-built fixed blade frame, the Chopper brings cleaver energy to a titanium folder, and the Bad Apple bottle opener carries the aesthetic to the bar. The Serene Chef's knife extends Kim's precision into kitchen knives with satin MagnaCut under SureTouch grips, and the wider catalog includes the Condor cigar cutter, four years in development, machined to tolerances within a ten-thousandth of an inch.
