Hinderer MP-1
The Hinderer MP-1, short for Modular Platform 1, debuted at the 2016 Tactical Knives Invitational as a clean break from the XM series. It keeps the overbuilt Hinderer construction in a stockier, more sculpted package, and it introduced the modular backspacer that later spread across the Rick Hinderer knives lineup, made in the USA.
Hinderer Modular Backspacer System
The MP-1 launched the Hinderer Modular Backspacer System, a one piece machined backspacer held to two standoffs by a single screw. It swaps out without taking the knife apart, so you can change colors or move to lanyard, bottle opener, and glass breaker styles in seconds. The same system now rides on the Jurassic, Full Track, and Project X, and our HMBS hardware carries backspacer options.
MP-1 Upswept Sheepsfoot in CPM S35VN
The MP-1 runs a 3.25 inch utility sheepsfoot with a slight upsweep, on 0.165 inch CPM S35VN, for a friendlier, more workmanlike profile than the angular XM grinds. It opens by flipper or dual thumb studs, with internal blade stops that leave the studs free and a notched thumb ramp for control. MP-1 vs XM-18 Frame and Specs
The MP-1 measures 7.875 inches open and 4.5 inches closed at roughly 5.9 ounces, just a touch smaller than the XM-18 3.5 but noticeably thicker and more rounded in hand. Builds came in all titanium or a titanium frame lock with G-10 or Micarta over a titanium liner, with Hinderer's textured pattern, the Lockbar Stabilizer, and a titanium clip for tip up or tip down carry.
