The Hinderer XM-18 3 inch is the compact of the XM family, the same titanium frame lock that made Rick Hinderer knives legendary cut down to a size that disappears in a pocket. At 4.125 inches closed and around 3.6 ounces, it is the XM for people who want Hinderer build quality without carrying a full size folder.
The 3 inch runs 7 inches open and 4.125 inches closed, well under the 4.75 inch handle of the XM-18 3.5 and at roughly two thirds of its weight. It also runs thinner 0.140 inch blade stock, so it slices better than its size suggests. If you want a full four finger grip without jumping to the 3.5, the XM-18 3.25 sits in between.
Every current 3 inch XM-18 runs CPM 20CV, a high wear stainless that holds an edge a long time and shrugs off corrosion, which suits a knife that lives in a pocket every day. The bowie leads the lineup with a fine, capable point for detail work, joined by the spanto and the slicer. Our comparison of every major knife steel shows where 20CV lands.
Flipper models open by tab or dual thumb studs, while non flipper builds run thumb studs alone for a cleaner spine line. Both carry the full Gen 6 build: a 6AL-4V titanium frame lock with a steel lockbar insert, the Hinderer Lockbar Stabilizer, a G-10 scale over a titanium liner, and the Tri-Way Pivot on ball bearings or swappable phosphor bronze and Teflon washers. The titanium clip carries right hand, tip up or tip down.
Nearly every part on the 3 inch can be swapped or upgraded, from scales and clips to screws and pivot hardware. Our 3 inch XM-18 hardware collection is sized to this knife, and the full range of Hinderer parts and accessories adds stabilizers, beads, and more.
